Sustainable Tourism in Africa – Focus on Ecotourism

Tourism is one of the key sectors driving social-economic development in the continent accounting for 8.5 per cent of GDP and 6.7 per cent of total employment in 2018. Tourism activities impact the natural, cultural, and social-economic assets in destination areas and globally there is a growing awareness of the importance of sustainability.

This report Sustainable Tourism in Africa Focus on Ecotourism presents an analysis and review of the implementation and results of the SWITCH Africa Green programme in the sustainable tourism sector. It covers the strategic interventions, results realized, cross-cutting issues, challenges, and the lessons learnt.
